Introduction

At Hansheng Automation, we manufacture custom drive sprockets engineered to the exact specifications of your chain drive system. With over a decade of precision gear manufacturing experience and a fully equipped CNC gear cutting facility, we produce drive sprockets to ANSI B29.1 and ISO 606 standards — from single prototypes to high-volume production runs.

Every drive sprocket we supply is manufactured from customer drawings, with full dimensional inspection before shipment. Whether you require a standard roller chain sprocket or a complex multi-strand or non-standard configuration, our engineering team is ready to deliver a precision solution that fits first time.

Drive Sprocket Types & Hub Styles

Drive sprockets are manufactured in several hub configurations, each suited to different shaft arrangements, mounting requirements, and drive loads. We produce all major hub styles to order:

Type A — Plate Sprocket (No Hub)

A flat steel disc with machined teeth and no extended hub. The Type A drive sprocket is typically used in compact drive systems where axial space is restricted and the shaft arrangement is fixed. Supplied with plain bore for customer machining, or finished bore to your specified diameter and keyway.

Type B — Single Hub Sprocket

The most common configuration for industrial chain drives. A machined hub extends to one side of the tooth plate, providing a longer bearing surface for keyway engagement and improved shaft support. Our single-hub drive sprockets are available across the full ANSI and ISO chain series range.

Type C — Double Hub Sprocket

Hubs extend on both sides of the tooth plate, offering maximum bearing length and the highest shaft support of the three standard types. Preferred for heavy-load, wide-centre-distance drives where shaft deflection must be minimized.

Taper Lock & QD Bushed Configurations

For applications requiring fast installation and removal without disturbing adjacent components, we manufacture drive sprockets compatible with taper lock and quick-detachable (QD) bushing systems. Custom bore and bushing profiles are available to your drawing.

Why Choose Hansheng Automation for Custom Drive Sprockets

Drawing-Based Custom Manufacturing

We do not sell catalogue sprockets. Every drive sprocket we produce is manufactured from your drawing, ensuring a precise fit with your existing chain, shaft, and machine envelope.

10+ Years of Precision Gear Manufacturing Experience

Our team has manufactured custom gears and drive sprockets across a broad range of industries for over a decade. We understand the engineering requirements behind the numbers on a drawing — including how material choice, heat treatment, and tooth form interact to determine real-world service life.

Prototype-to-Production Flexibility

Whether you need one drive sprocket for a prototype machine or a thousand pieces for a production run.

Engineering Support & DFM Consultation

Our engineering team reviews every customer drawing before quoting. If we identify a specification that could be optimized for manufacturability, lead time, or cost — we will tell you before production starts, not after.

Send us your drawing and we will respond within 24 business hours with a quotation and any DFM feedback.

To help us turn your enquiry around as quickly as possible, please include the following information in your RFQ:

  • Part drawing (PDF, DWG, or STEP format)
  • Chain standard (ANSI B29.1 or ISO 606) and chain series (e.g. #40 or 10B)
  • Number of teeth and required bore diameter
  • Hub style (Type A / B / C / Taper Lock / other)
  • Material and heat treatment requirements
  • Required quantity and target delivery date

FAQ

What is a drive sprocket?

A drive sprocket is a toothed wheel that engages with a roller chain to transfer rotational power from a driving shaft to a driven shaft or conveying surface.

What is the difference between ANSI B29.1 and ISO 606 drive sprockets?

ANSI B29.1 is the American inch-series standard, using pitch designations such as #40 (12.7 mm pitch) or #60 (19.05 mm pitch). ISO 606 is the international metric standard, with pitch designations such as 08B (12.7 mm pitch) or 12B (19.05 mm pitch). Always confirm which standard your chain conforms to before ordering a replacement or new drive sprocket.

What is the minimum recommended tooth count for a drive sprocket?

The industry-standard minimum for a driving (input) sprocket is 17 teeth.

What materials do you offer for custom drive sprockets?

We regularly produce drive sprockets in carbon steel (45#, C45E), alloy steel (40Cr, 42CrMo4), stainless steel (304, 316), and cast iron. Material selection depends on your application’s torque level, operating environment, required service life, and budget.

What is the typical production lead time for custom drive sprockets?

Lead time depends on the complexity of the sprocket geometry, the material and heat treatment specified, and the quantity ordered. Standard single-strand drive sprockets in carbon or alloy steel typically ship within 2–4 weeks from drawing approval. Heat-treated or ground components add 3–5 business days. Please submit your drawing for a specific lead time commitment.
